Paper Flowers
Cover from Goodreads

Love. Fear. Heartbreak. Happiness.

Jake Nicholls is a florist with a past he would rather forget. He’s content spending his days helping people express their love with flowers. He isn’t looking for love.

When Max Christiansen walks into Pocket of Posies for help with his sister’s wedding planning, he isn’t expecting to find someone like Jake. Max is drawn to Jake but the other man seems wary.

Jake is frightened of the attraction between them. He is afraid that letting Max in will mean heartbreak. Max is afraid of missing their chance for something real. Two people, both broken, are trying to find their way to a happy ending, but the light at the end of the tunnel seems so far away.

My Thoughts:

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I was looking forward to reading this book. I don’t read many M/M romances, so I was excited to jump into this book.

Paper Flowers Quote 4

Something that I love is the characters, and this book is full of them. I found myself engaged in the book & I loved the interaction between all of the characters. Jake & Max were an adorable couple, and I rooted for them throughout the entire book, which became exhausting. Paper Flowers is incredibly drawn out, and at times the pacing was extremely slow. The slow pace was due to the excessive use of tension and drama. I love my drama, but I would have liked to see more of the romance aspect and less strain.

Paper Flowers Quote 3

Though the strain of the relationship was exhausting, I found the romance part charming and exhilarating. The flirting was adorable, and I loved the interactions between the characters. It was fun to see Max & Jake fall in love, and it was even more fun to see the communication between the family members. I loved that this book featured strong sibling relationships. I also liked that it explored how damaging not being accepted for who you are can be.

Paper Flowers Quote

Though it had a few bumps and bruises, I enjoyed it. I would recommend this book to those who don’t mind a slower-paced romance that has a lot of angst. Wondering where you can get your copy of Paper Flowers by Andie Barr? If so here are the links to buy your very own copy!
