Goodreads Summary:

New York Times Bestselling author Samantha Young writing as S. Young.

Thea Quinn has no idea what she is. All she knows is that her abilities have been a plague upon her life since she was a child. After years of suffering at the hands of a megalomaniac, Thea escaped and has been on the run ever since.

The leadership and protection of his pack are of the utmost importance to Conall MacLennan, Alpha and Chief of Clan MacLennan, the last werewolf pack in Scotland. Which is why watching his sister slowly die of a lycanthropic disease is emotional torture. When Conall is approached by a businessman who offers a cure for his sister in exchange for the use of Conall’s rare tracking ability, Conall forges an unbreakable contract with him. He has to find and retrieve the key to the cure: dangerous murderer, Thea Quinn.

Thea’s attempts to evade the ruthless werewolf are not only thwarted by the Alpha, but by outside dangers. With no choice but to rely on one another for survival, truths are revealed, intensifying a passionate connection they both fight to resist. At war with themselves and each other, Conall and Thea’s journey to Scotland forces them to face a heartrending choice between love and betrayal.

War of Hearts is a standalone paranormal romance.

My Thoughts:

As many of you already know, I love Samantha Young. I’ve been reading her books since I found On Dublin Street and I’ve been on her ARC team for years now. I love her books. When I found out she was writing paranormal books under S. Young, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it finally.

War of Hearts was well written and action-packed. Like all of S. Young’s books, I couldn’t help but love Thea and Conall. Seeing the relationships and chemistry between the characters was enthralling. My favorite part of this book was seeing how much Conall loved his pack. I also enjoyed the chemistry between him and Thea. They were combustible, and I loved every moment and every spark. Thea was a strong woman, and I couldn’t help but root for her the entire time.

Not only were the characters done well, but the world that we see in War of Hearts is well constructed. I loved seeing a world where Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, and the like were all there. I especially loved the mention of Faeries (as you all knew I would). This world was well constructed and fun to see Samantha Young’s take on the paranormal romance genre.

As much as I liked this book, I did have one or two problems with it. My main issue is due to my insurance license. In a description of a home, we see a wood-burning stove set between two large bookshelves filled with books. I know that it is nit-picky, but it pulled me out of the story. Also, in modern times, removing a license plate does not mean a car is untraceable. There are VINs that are easily traced back to the person holding the title to the vehicle. Even with these issues, I still found this book engaging and well done. I am looking forward to more paranormal romance books by S. Young.

      1. Great review, I love some good paranormal romance.
It been a while I had read one this might just be what I need to get out of the paranormal romance.

  1. Both the mention of Scotland (just binge watched Outlander) and the name Thea Quinn (very close to Thea Queen in CW’s The Arrow which I enjoy) make me feel I should read this; but paranormal is a genre I read rarely..so you have me in a quandary with your review 🙂

    1. I really loved it but if you do not like the paranormal genre I wouldn’t recommend it. But I would highly recommend her On Dublin Street series. It is set in Scotland and has no paranormal elements in it.
