HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!!
It’s #FaeFriday, and that means it’s time to let your inner fae come out and play! Instead of doing a Valentine’s Day theme, I decided that for this week, we’d talk about healing. Whether you need a dying plant or a broken heart mended, the fair folk can help. Just like fae, books can be incredibly healing, so the prompt this week is:
What book helped you through a difficult time?
The first book that came to mind for this prompt is The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa and translated by Philip Gabriel. I read this book a few months after my grandma passed away, and I wasn’t dealing with my emotions well. I’m not going to bore you with the details, but I wasn’t doing okay. I couldn’t focus on reading, and I couldn’t find joy in anything. I was completely numb and not in a good headspace. Fortunately for myself, I received a physical ARC of this book, so I felt pressured to read it by publication date. I picked up this book, and it forced me to deal with every emotion I tried to claim I was too numb to feel. FYI, this book will make you ugly cry in the best possible way. Hiro Arikawa is a master at evoking emotions, and the best part of this book is that it is told through the cat, Nana’s perspective. Want to read my review of this book? Here’s a link!
Now that I bared my soul a little bit, what book helped you through a difficult time?
