#FaeFriday | Favorite History Books By Black Authors

Happy #faefriday!!! I hope everyone’s week has been good. Mine has been a little hectic but I’m super happy that it’s Friday and that the weekend is here! This is the last Friday in February and I wanted to take the time to showcase some of the amazing history books that I have read that were written by Black authors. That is why the prompt this week is:

What are some of your favorite history books written by Black authors?

I have to admit, history isn’t my favorite genre so I don’t have many books on this list but I do have some great favorites that I have read. It actually seems that the majority of the history books that I have read are written by Black authors. I think that it’s incredibly important to learn the history that was left out of the curriculum. Living in America, I’ve been taught a very white-centric version of our history and I’m striving to learn more about our true history.

Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi is hands down one of the best history books I have read. This book was incredibly informative and was a great starter book into learning about Black history. It was a fast-paced history book, and the audiobook was incredible.

Another book that I enjoyed was How We Fight White Supremacy by Akiba Solomon & Kenrya Rankin. This book was incredibly eye-opening, and I couldn’t believe all of the information I learned through it. This book is more focused on the current era, but the history that it pulled from was brilliantly researched and something I think every white ally should read.

Four Hundred Souls by Ibram X. Kendi and Keisha N. Blain  was an extremely eye-opening read that I just finished last month. This book was well researched and intense at moments I honestly couldn’t put it down. I wish that I would have grabbed the physical book so that I could have highlighted sections and written notes down. I think that that book is going to be a book that everyone should read.

So now that you know my answer, what are some of your favorite history books written by Black authors??
