Summary:

A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel that proves one thing: there’s not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick.

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases — a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice — with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan — from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he’s making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic.

My Thoughts:

When I went onto bookish first and saw this book being offered, I was a little hesitant to even read the excerpt provided. I’m always nervous to read a book where the characters have mental illness simply because it can be portrayed very poorly. This book could have been yet another cliché romance book but it turned out to be something completely unique.

This is the first book that I have read by Helen Hoang and it definitely will not be my last. Helen was able to create something unique, beautiful, and sexy. The characters were all different and nothing that I expected. Stella was a strong woman who didn’t live by her label. I loved that she is on the autism spectrum & I loved that it didn’t define her. The author was able to bring a disorder into the light & show the strengths and weaknesses that it can create. It was completely realistic which I loved. Michael was a fun and interesting character as well and I couldn’t help but cheer him on throughout the book.

The plot was fun and quirky and I loved the twists and turns that were there. Not only did I like the plot, but I also loved the writing style. The writing went above and beyond my expectations, I simply loved it. The writing style flowed really well and I never wanted to put the book down. This is the first book that I have read by Helen Hoang and it will not be my last. She was able to create characters that were likable, lovable, and hilarious. Each character had their moments and I simply loved the entire book.
