#FaeFriday | Music

It’s #FaeFriday, which means it’s time to add a bit of magic to your week! This week we’re talking about music! Music is something that faeries are known to enjoy. That is why this week’s prompt is:

What kind of music do you listen to when reading?

I typically don’t listen to music when reading, but I make it count when I do. I was a band geek for most of my life, so sometimes when the world is a bit too loud, I put on some of my favorite instrumental music. I’m a sucker for good instrumentals. There is nothing more magical than hearing a well-tuned piccolo or that beautiful french horn that makes your skin tingle. Instrumental music has been a massive part of my life, so it’s the best background noise when I need the world to be a little less loud.

My favorite composers are honestly the usual bunch that most people will know by now, but I’ll list them because sometimes you forget how outstanding composers can be.

Johann Sebastian Bach
Ludwig Van Beethoven
Danny Elfman
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Howard Shore
Antonio Vivaldi
Hans Zimmer

Psst. a random fact about me: I have a tattoo of a symbol that was on the back of my marching band uniform.

So now that you know my answer, what kind of music do you listen to when reading??

  1. Great composers! I love really dreamy movie scores. I love background music in general — I like to think all the music in the Zelda games (esp. Ocarina and Twilight Princess) is literally part of the world. Like, it’s a faery world, so of course every environment would be infused with faery music! Personal favorites: the Lake Hylia and Faron Woods themes in Twilight Princess, and the Forest Temple theme in Ocarina.

As for me, I’ve made a bunch of book-related playlists on Spotify (I’m NeriSiren there, too), but when I’m actually listening while reading. It has to be something either turned down enough or just instrumental. So far, the best actually-reading playlists I’ve found were a pair of eerie carnival-themed ones. They go so well with carnival ghost stories! It actually makes the experience spookier.

    1. Zelda’s music is some of the best I have heard while playing video games. It truly immerses you into the world.

Oooo!! I haven’t thought to make themes for when I’m reading certain types of music though now I’m tempted. I’m one of those weird people that have never used Spotify but now I might just have to do something similar!
