It’s Friday, and today is my lovely Calcifer’s 4th birthday! For those of you who don’t know, Cal was named after a fire demon from Howl’s Moving Castle! That is why this week’s prompt is:

What is your favorite book with demons in it?

I’m sure you all know the answer to this question because it’s well, in the question! Howl’s Moving Castle is super cute! It’s one of my favorite midgrade novels that I have read too! I first read the books in college after my sister forced me to watch the movie. This book is perfect for those kids who want to escape into a fantasy world!

I know some of you probably wonder why I would name Cal after a fire demon of all things, so I figured I would give you all the origin story of my little Calcifer.

I adopted Cal in October of 2016 when he was just a few months old. He was wild. When I saw him at the shelter, I knew he was meant for me. He wouldn’t even come to me, but I was determined. I brought him home, where he proceeded to grab everything from under my bed and destroy anything he could get his little mouth on. I remember sitting on the floor wondering how I was going to handle this when Calcifer came over and just snuggled in my lap and went to sleep. It was then I knew the perfect name for him. He was too mouthy, too hyper, and had way too much fire in his eyes. I liked his spark. I’m also pretty sure he would have made all my bacon burn if I didn’t bring him home that day.

Yep, he destroyed books.

Happy birthday, The Mighty Calcifer! I sure to do love your spark!

So now that you know my answer, What is your favorite book with demons in it?

  1. Happy Birthday, Cal! My favorite demon-related book is Castle Waiting, Vol. 1. One of my favorite characters is a mischievous nun named Peace, who regularly hangs out with a not-completely-evil demon named Leeds. They do occasionally try to pull each other to the other side, but also spend a lot of time just eating snickerdoodles together and chatting about applied Christianity.

  2. Happy birthday Cal! This post really warmed my heart. What a cutie!! Even if he is a fire demon, lol.

  3. OMG he is a handful. I am glad he found you or you did. Either way I am happy that you love each other.
